About this file
This is a technical specification document for concrete reinforcing work prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc., applicable to the Borough of Elizabethtown's sanitary sewer improvements projects in Pennsylvania. The specification establishes requirements for reinforcing bars, welded wire fabric, and reinforcement accessories used in cast-in-place concrete construction. Key products specified include deformed reinforcing steel bars complying with ASTM A615 with a yield strength of 60 ksi in uncoated finish, deformed bar mats per ASTM A184, and welded steel wire fabric per ASTM A185 in plain type and coiled rolls. The specification mandates fabrication according to Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) 10-MSP standards and establishes detailed installation requirements including bar spacing per ACI 318, placement tolerances ranging from plus or minus 3/8 inch for reinforcement depths greater than 8 inches to plus or minus 1/2 inch for depths of 8 inches or less, and concrete cover requirements per applicable building codes. Installation must prevent displacement of reinforcement, accommodate formed openings, and comply with field measurements verified prior to fabrication.
The specification incorporates multiple reference standards including ACI 301, ACI 318, and AWS D1.4 to ensure structural integrity and quality control. Reinforcing splices must be located at points of minimum stress, and bars must be spaced with minimum clear spacing according to ACI 318 standards. The document references Section 01 40 00 for quality requirements and tolerances, with foundation walls subject to additional tolerances per ACI 530/530.1. Field quality control requirements are deferred to Section 01 40 00 and include inspecting and testing provisions. No specific pricing, bid security amounts, or contract award information is included in this technical specification document, as it serves as the construction standard applicable to the broader sanitary sewer improvement contracts.
