About this file
This is an Execution Requirements specification document for Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. related to the Alterations for Penn Township Municipal Building project in Pennsylvania. The specification establishes comprehensive requirements for field engineering, system startup, demonstration and instructions, testing and balancing, examination procedures, preparation work, execution standards, cutting and patching protocols, protection of installed construction, progress cleaning, and correction of defective work. Key execution requirements include field verification of measurements and setbacks, maintenance of survey control logs, seven-day advance notification to the Engineer prior to equipment startup, demonstration of operation and maintenance to Owner personnel one week before Substantial Completion, and compliance with manufacturer's installation instructions maintained on-site. The specification mandates that contractors locate work accurately with proper alignment and elevation, maintain minimum eight-foot headroom in spaces without suspended ceilings, secure products with appropriate anchorage devices, allow for material expansion, and arrange joints for optimal visual effect with Engineer consultation on questionable decisions.
The specification emphasizes rigorous site examination and reporting protocols, requiring contractors to verify existing conditions, substrate suitability, utility availability, and to promptly report deficiencies in written form including descriptions of work, detrimental conditions, unacceptable tolerances, and recommended corrections. Preparation requirements include cleaning substrate surfaces, sealing cracks, and applying manufacturer-specified primers or sealers. Contractors must employ skilled installers for cutting and patching work, submit written requests in advance for work affecting structural integrity or weather-exposed elements, and restore surfaces using new products per contract requirements. Progress cleaning must occur daily with compliance to NFPA 241 standards for combustible waste removal, containerization of hazardous materials, and prohibition of on-site burning or burial of waste. The specification also addresses protection of installed construction through temporary coverings and activity restrictions, particularly regarding waterproofed surfaces and landscaped areas, with final cleaning and maintenance required through project completion.
