About this file
This is a Section 06 10 00 specification document for Rough Carpentry work prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. for the Skytop Lodge Sewage Treatment Plant Improvements Project in Pennsylvania. The specification details requirements for structural wall framing, sill gaskets and flashings, preservative-treated wood, and miscellaneous framing components. The document establishes material standards including lumber grading requirements (DOC PS 20), wood-preservative treatment specifications (AWPA U1 standards with Use Category UC3b for exterior construction and CCA retention of 0.40PCF for ground contact items), and fastener requirements (ASTM F1667 nails and power-driven fasteners per NES NER-272). All framing members are specified as No. 2 grade or better Spruce/Pine/Fir with maximum moisture content of 19 percent. Metal framing anchors must comply with manufacturers such as Simpson Strong-Tie or USP Structural Connectors, with hot-dip galvanized steel per ASTM A653/A653M standards. A pre-bid conference is scheduled for August 25, 2026 at 10:30 AM at Skytop Lodge STP in Canadensis, Pennsylvania, with bids due by September 18, 2026 at 10:00 AM through PennBid.
The specification requires bid security of not less than 10 percent in the form of a certified check or bid bond. All fasteners in areas exposed to weather, ground contact, or high humidity require hot-dip zinc coating compliant with ASTM A153. The document mandates compliance with AF&PA's WCD 1 for conventional wood frame construction details and requires field treatment of cut surfaces on preservative-treated lumber using inorganic boron for continuously protected items or copper naphthenate for items not continuously protected from liquid water. Installation must follow ICC International Building Code Table 2304.9.1 fastening schedules. All products and materials submitted require manufacturer documentation, ICC-ES evaluation reports, and treatment certifications. Lumber storage and handling protocols mandate flat stacking with spacers for air circulation and waterproof weather protection during delivery and on-site staging.
