About this file
This is a Foundation Plan architectural drawing prepared by Brown & Kubican, PSC for the Commonwealth of Kentucky's Department for Facilities Management, Division of Engineering, for the Professional Services Classroom Center at 438-440 Scott Street, Covington, Kentucky 41011. The drawing, dated January 6, 2014 and approved December 3, 2015, details the foundation work required for the Gateway Urban Campus project, including new concrete slab-on-grade construction with wire fabric reinforcement over crushed stone and vapor retarder, reinforced concrete foundation slabs and footings for steel post support, and new CMU basement wall infill. The project specifications require the contractor to verify all dimensions in the field, coordinate with architectural drawings for existing wall demolition and new jamb end finish construction, infill existing blockouts with new brick masonry, install shallow spread footings (F3020) measuring 3'-0" x 2'-0" x 1'-4" with specified reinforcing patterns, and construct CMU walls tight to existing masonry structures while managing interference with existing low-elevation wood beams through selective removal and grout infill as needed.
The base bid shall cover all costs associated with the complete infill of existing blockouts, foundation preparation, and wall construction coordination with existing site conditions. The project involves extensive coordination between structural, architectural, and mechanical systems, including removal of abandoned ductwork, installation of wood blocking at 16-inch on-center spacing, provision of moisture barriers and flashing between masonry and wood construction, and adhesive embedding of dowels into existing masonry using specified epoxy systems such as Hilti HIT-HY 70. Simpson galvanized heavy angle connectors are specified at 16-inch on-center intervals, fastened with lag screws and supplemented with preservative-treated wood members to accommodate variations in existing floor joist elevations and ensure proper connection of the new structural elements to the existing building framework.
