SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Load bank test:

Contractor shall elaborate an initial plan for the execution of a load bank test (resistive method) to all generators on each site on an annual basis. Contractor shall perform the load bank test of each generator to 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of its capacity. Contractor shall provide the load bank to perform this test.

Contractor must provide a report at the completion of the load bank test. Report must document at a minimum the time the test was performed, the date, the voltage of each phase, the amperage of each phase, the frequency, the oil pressure, the coolant temperature, the engine battery voltage and the engine hours at 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent of the nameplate rating of the generator. The contractor must download this information to graph a detailed performance report. Contractor must compare results from the current test to the last test performed and predict if the performance of the generator has increased or decreased. Contractor must also analyze the results and predict if cooling system and or the oil pump may need repairs based on the temperature and oil pressure recommended by the manufacturer.

Contractor must prepare an SOP (standard operating procedure) that shall follow for the load bank test and shall include the following recommendations:

- It is important that the load bank is located in free air space for proper cooling to avoid damages to plants and trees caused by heat leaving the load bank.

- All automatic transfer switches (ATSs) shall be disabled to avoid accidental transfer to facility load.

- Load bank shall be connected to the load side of the generator breaker.

- Cable rated to carry 100 percent of the rated load shall be used to connect the generator to the bank.

- Verify all cables are connected properly prior to beginning the test.

- Start generator and allow a minimum of 10 minutes to warm-up.

- Apply load in steps allowing at least 30 minutes between steps.

- Monitor the engine for leaks, oil pressure and temperature.

- Allow a minimum of 30-minute cool down period at the completion of the test with no load.
