About this file

Summary

This is a technical specifications document for Section 41 22 00 - Cranes and Hoists, prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc., for the Northwestern Chester County Municipal Authority's West Pump Station Replacement Project in Pennsylvania. The specification details the procurement of one stationary Davit Crane system designed to remove and lift a sewage grinder from a wet well into a pick-up truck. The crane equipment must meet specific performance requirements including a crane rating of 2,800 pounds with a winch configuration rated at 2,000 pounds at 20 feet below floor with 90-inch reach. The specified basis of design is a Thern, Inc. Model 5FT25X-E2X, featuring 360-degree rotation, adjustable boom angle and reach (54-122 inches horizontally and 66-150 inches vertically), welded structural steel pipe construction with gray epoxy coating, and stainless steel hardware. The manufacturer must demonstrate a minimum of five years of experience producing substantially similar equipment, and all submittals must include descriptive literature, complete equipment lists with manufacturer names and model numbers, operation and maintenance data, assembly instructions, and certified load test results.

The winch component of the crane system shall be electric-powered with a 1.5 HP, 115/1/60 VAC motor, automatic internal mechanical load brake, emergency hand crank feature, 6-foot NEMA 4 pendant control, and line speed capability ranging from 9-16 feet per minute. The cable specification requires 45 feet of 5/16-inch diameter stainless steel aircraft cable with a swivel hook. Installation requirements mandate that the contractor provide location data, structural moment/reaction calculations, and bolt specifications to the precast wet well manufacturer to ensure proper design for the intended load. The contractor must complete installation according to shop drawings and manufacturer instructions, followed by demonstration of the crane's operational capability by successfully removing and reinstalling all intended equipment from the wet well. The project bids are due May 20, 2026 at 10:00 AM and include three separate contracts: WPS-1 (General Construction), WPS-2 (Electrical Construction), and WPS-3 (Mechanical Construction), submitted on a lump sum basis.
