About this file

This is a specifications document for louvers and vents section (08 90 00) prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. for the West Pump Station Replacement Project in Pennsylvania, a construction project for the Northwestern Chester County Municipal Authority. The specifications detail requirements for fixed, extruded-aluminum louvers with horizontal drainable blades designed to provide specified wind-driven rain performance. The louvers must comply with AMCA 500-L standards and include performance ratings such as a minimum free area of 8.0 square feet for 48-inch by 48-inch units and a point of beginning water penetration rating of not less than 1000 fpm. Louver frames and blades must be constructed from aluminum extrusions (ASTM B 221, Alloy 6063-T5, T-52, or T6) with nominal thicknesses of not less than 0.060 inch for blades and 0.080 inch for frames. The specifications require 6-inch depth louvers with exposed mullions spaced not more than 72 inches on center, insect screening on interior faces of exterior louvers, and optional insulated blank-off panels with 1-inch thickness. Acceptable manufacturers include Air Blanca Inc., Arrow United Industries, Carnes Company Inc., Construction Specialties Inc., Greenheck Fan Corporation, and Ruskin Company, or approved equals.

The specifications require shop drawings including plans, elevations, sections, details, frame and blade profiles, weep paths, gasket locations, and flashing details prior to fabrication. All louvers must be finished with a clear anodic finish per AAMA 611, AA-M12C22A41 specifications after assembly. Installation requirements mandate that louvers be placed level, plumb, and properly aligned with closely fitted joints, weathertight connections, and perimeter sealants applied per Section 07 92 00. Field measurements of openings must be verified before fabrication to accommodate installation tolerances. The specifications include requirements for protecting exposed surfaces from corrosion through bituminous paint or waterproof gaskets, cleaning exposed surfaces during and after construction with mild soap and water, and repairing any damage with factory-matching finishes or replacement of units as determined by the Architect.
