About this file
This is a technical specification document for manufactured gutters and downspouts prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc., in relation to the West Pump Station Replacement Project being conducted by the Northwestern Chester County Municipal Authority in Pennsylvania. The specification establishes requirements for gutter and downspout materials, design, fabrication, and installation for the project. Materials specified include prefinished galvanized-steel sheet with either silicone-modified polyester or PVDF coating, manufactured in rectangular or square profiles per NRCA standards, with 24-gauge core steel thickness and G90 zinc coating. The gutters and downspouts must be sized in accordance with the NRCA Roofing Manual based on rainfall intensity for a 100-year storm event. Fabrication requirements mandate square and accurate sizing, maximum possible lengths, connection pieces, hemmed exposed edges, and either polyester or PVDF coating systems compliant with AAMA standards. Installers must possess a minimum of three years of experience in fabricating and installing similar sheet metal systems, and installation must include formed seams, watertight joints, proper flashing to accessories, and a minimum gutter slope of one-quarter inch per ten feet.
The specification requires suppliers to submit manufacturer product data and shop drawings indicating locations, configurations, jointing methods, fastening methods, and installation details prior to fabrication. Materials must be delivered in manufacturer's original packaging, stored in clean and dry conditions per manufacturer instructions, and protected from moisture, dust, and damage. All fasteners and anchoring devices must match the gutter and downspout material and finish, with zinc-molybdate primer or manufacturer-recommended coating required for contact with dissimilar metals. Concealed metal surfaces must be painted with protective backing paint to a minimum dry film thickness of fifteen mils. Field measurements must be verified prior to fabrication to ensure proper fit and performance. Splash pads must be installed under downspouts and secured in place to complete the system installation.
