About this file
This is a technical specification document for standard hollow metal doors prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. for the West Pump Station Replacement Project in Northwestern Chester County, Pennsylvania. The specification establishes requirements for thermally insulated steel doors to be used in the project's new pump station building construction. The doors specified are exterior doors measuring 1-3/4 inches thick, meeting ANSI A250.8 Level 2 Heavy Duty standards with seamless design. Approved manufacturers include Ceco Door/ASSA ABLOY, Hollow Metal, Inc., and North American Door Corp., with substitutions permitted per established procedures. The specification requires shop drawings indicating door elevations, internal reinforcement, and finishes, along with product data, samples of door face metal (2 x 2 inches), manufacturer installation instructions, and certificates of compliance. Doors must be delivered in manufacturer's packaging, inspected for damage upon receipt, and installed in coordination with hollow metal frames and hardware installations as outlined in related sections.
The doors must feature galvanized steel sheet facing in accordance with ASTM A653/A653M specifications, with a polystyrene foam core providing a total insulation R-Value of 2.64 as measured by ASTM C1363 standards. Shop finishing requires a rust-inhibitive primer followed by baked enamel or thermosetting epoxy in colors selected by the Owner. All doors must include removable steel stops, welded hardware reinforcements, and continuous perimeter weatherstripping for exterior applications. Installation must follow ANSI A250.8 protocols with maximum diagonal distortion tolerances of 1/16 inch. The specification requires smooth and balanced door movement adjustment prior to final acceptance and references the manufacturer's minimum three years of documented experience in hollow metal door production as a qualification requirement.
