About this file
This is a technical specification document for sanitary sewerage force main piping prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. for the Northwestern Chester County Municipal Authority's West Pump Station Replacement Project in Pennsylvania. The specification details the installation of force main piping systems, including ductile-iron pipe in sizes 3 to 12 inches with Class 52 pressure rating (350 psig), mechanical or push-on restrained joints, and associated fittings and accessories. The work encompasses pipe bedding and cover materials using AASHTO No. 8 aggregate, soil backfill meeting specific compaction and gradation requirements, concrete thrust blocking at bends and changes in direction, pipe markers, and connections to the existing force main. Installation must comply with numerous standards including AWWA C151, AWWA C104, AWWA C111, and AWWA C110 specifications, with the work performed according to Northwestern Chester County Municipal Authority standards. Field quality control includes pre-installation and post-installation inspections, hydrostatic pressure testing, and compaction testing in compliance with ASTM D698 or D1557 standards as directed by the engineer.
The specification requires that materials be delivered in manufacturer's original packaging and stored in clean, dry conditions remote from construction operations, with gaskets stored in cool environments away from direct sunlight and petroleum products. Ductile-iron pipe must have Protecto 401 interior lining and standard asphaltic exterior coating on fittings, with all materials and installation performed by qualified manufacturers and installers possessing minimum three years of documented experience and manufacturer approval. The contractor must submit product data, shop drawings indicating pipe piece numbers and restrained joint locations, manufacturer certificates and instructions, field quality-control test results, and qualification statements. Closeout submittals must include project record documents with invert elevations and actual pipe locations, and documentation of any unexpected variations to subsoil conditions or discovery of uncharted utilities. No pricing, contract values, or bid submission details are specified within this technical specification document.
