About this file
This is a technical specification document for identification and signage for utilities prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. for the Northwestern Chester County Municipal Authority's West Pump Station Replacement Project in Pennsylvania. The specification details requirements for plastic ribbon tape to be installed above direct-buried utilities, specifically for sanitary sewer identification. The ribbon tape must be polyethylene material, brightly colored with continuous printing, measuring a minimum of 6 inches wide by 4 mils thick, manufactured for direct burial service, and imprinted with "CAUTION - SANITARY SEWER BELOW" in large letters. Installation requires continuous placement of the ribbon tape directly over the top of pipe, and when multiple pipes exist in a common trench, the tape shall be located above the centerline of the trench. The installation work must be coordinated with trenching and backfilling operations specified in related sections of the project specifications.
The specification references quality assurance requirements aligned with Northwestern Chester County Municipal Authority standards and requires manufacturers to have a minimum of three years' documented experience in producing the specified products. Product data submissions are required per standard submittal procedures, and project record documents must document the actual locations of tagged valves upon project closeout. Maintenance materials must also be submitted in accordance with execution requirements. This specification is one component of the broader West Pump Station Replacement Project, which includes general construction, electrical construction, and mechanical construction contracts with bids due online by May 20, 2026 at 10:00 AM local time.
