About this file
This specification document outlines the technical requirements for manhole rim adjustment work as part of the West Pump Station Replacement Project administered by the Northwestern Chester County Municipal Authority in Pennsylvania. The work includes raising manhole frames and covers to grade using flat or tapered rubber manhole rings, with adjustments not to exceed 6 inches, along with associated excavation, cleaning, waterproofing repairs, and landscape restoration. Materials must comply with ASTM standards including precast concrete riser rings (ASTM C478), rubber seal wraps (ASTM C877, Type III), joint sealants (ASTM C990), and stainless steel bolts (ASTM F593). The specification requires a preinstallation meeting minimum one week prior to work commencement and submittal of manufacturer product data, installation instructions, qualifications statements, and shop inspection results. Manufacturers and installers must demonstrate minimum three years of documented experience in their respective areas.
The specification establishes Pennsylvania Department of Transportation standards as the governing quality assurance requirements and mandates that field measurements be verified prior to fabrication with results indicated on Shop Drawings. Upon completion, contractors must submit project record documents showing actual grade-adjusted elevations of all manholes and restore grassed areas according to landscape grading and seeding specifications. Materials must be delivered in original manufacturer packaging, inspected for damage, and stored in clean, dry locations protected from moisture and dust. Approved manufacturers may submit certificates of compliance in lieu of specified shop tests, and all joints must be sealed with approved sealants meeting specified overlap requirements of 2 to 3 inches depending on joint location.
