About this file
This document is an electrical demolition roof plan for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) at the California State Prison, Los Angeles County (LAC) located in Lancaster, California. The project involves replacing roofs for 270 Housing Unit Buildings 346-347 during Phase 1 of a roof replacement project, with detailed electrical demolition specifications for existing conduits, electrical circuits, junction boxes, and mechanical equipment. The plan is dated August 29, 2023, with working drawings prepared by M. Neil Engineering and approved by the Office of the State Fire Marshal on October 10, 2023.
The electrical demolition plan includes specific instructions for safely disconnecting existing electrical circuits, removing portions of existing conduits and wiring, replacing junction boxes and service receptacles, and maintaining fire alarm devices and circuit continuity during construction. Key requirements include placing existing electrical circuits in a "safe-off" condition, not damaging HVAC ducts with duct detectors, and ensuring that new conduit, wiring, and electrical installations match existing specifications. The project involves careful coordination with mechanical systems and adherence to strict electrical safety and replacement protocols for the prison facility's roofing repair work.

EXISTING MECHANICAL UNIT TO BE DISCONNECTED FOR ROOF REPAIR. COORDINATE WITH
MECHANICAL. REINSTALL USING NEW ELECTRICAL CONDUIT, CONDUCTORS AND DEVICES.
CONDUIT SIZE, WIRING SIZE, QUANTITY AND TYPE SHALL MATCH EXISTING. SEE REMODEL PLAN
"1/EA301".
EXISTING NON-GFCI RECEPTACLE TO BE REPLACED. SEE REMODEL PLAN "1/EA301".
NUMBERED NOTES
GENERAL NOTES
1. PLACE ALL EXISTING ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS FEEDING EXISTING HVAC AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT ON
ROOFTOP IN A "SAFE-OFF" CONDITION, PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION. NO NEW LOADS ADDED TO
CIRCUITS.
2. REMOVE PORTIONS OF EXISTING CONDUITS AND WIRING NECESSARY TO RE-ROOF EXISTING
BUILDING.
3. DO NOT DAMAGE DURING CONSTRUCTION AND REUSE ALL EXISTING CIRCUITS, PROVIDE NEW HVAC DISCONNECTS, PROVIDE NEW WEATHERPROOF GFCI SERVICE RECEPTACLES TO REPLACE EXISTING
RECEPTACLES FOR REMODEL.
4. REMOVE EXISTING JUNCTION BOXES AND FLEX CONDUITS BACK TO ROOF PENETRATION POINT, AND DO NOT REUSE. REPLACE ALL ABOVE ROOF CONDUITS WITH NEW - WIRING SIZE, QUANTITY AND TYPE SHALL MATCH EXISTING. SPLICE IN POWER WIRING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. NEW CONTROL WIRING TO HVAC EQUIPMENT MAY ONLY BE INSTALLED FOR THE RUN FROM THE EQUIPMENT CONTROL PANEL TO
THE NEAREST EXISTING TERMINATION POINT OR SPLICE LOCATION. INSTALL NEW EMT WITH
COMPRESSION FITTINGS AND LIQUID-TIGHT METAL CONDUIT TERMINATION AT THE MECHANICAL
EQUIPMENT .
5. DO NOT DAMAGE HVAC DUCTS WITH DUCT DETECTORS. MAINTAIN FIRE ALARM DEVICE AND CIRCUIT
DURING CONSTRUCTION.
6. DO NOT DAMAGE WP SERVICE RECEPTACLE BACK BOXES. REMOVE ANCHORING, AS NEEDED, TO
ALLOW MOVEMENT DURING ROOFING REPAIR. MAINTAIN CIRCUIT CONTINUITY AND RECEPTACLE
FUNCTIONALITY AFTER CONSTRUCTION.
7. REPLACE JUNCTION BOXES. REPLACEMENT BOX TO MATCH EXISTING TYPE AND SIZE.
