About this file
This is a technical specification document for Section 06 11 20 - Framing and Sheathing, prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc., for the West Pump Station Replacement Project in Northwestern Chester County, Pennsylvania. The specification establishes standards for miscellaneous framing and sheathing work, including purlins, girts, headers, skirt boards, and posts, and references related requirements for rough carpentry and shop-fabricated wood trusses. The document mandates plywood roof sheathing with APA Rated Sheathing and Span Rating 24" (5/8" thick in 48 x 96 inch sheets) and wall sheathing with Span Rating 16" (½" thick in 48 x 96 inch sheets). Framing materials must comply with DOC PS 20 standards and include Hem-Fir or SPF #2 and better lumber for nominal sizes up to 2 x 4, with Southern Yellow Pine #2 and better required for treated lumber. All materials must be certified, delivered level and protected from damage, stored off ground and under cover to maintain dryness, and handled in accordance with Section 01 40 00 Quality Requirements.
Execution requirements specify that structural members must be set level and plumb with proper temporary bracing, horizontal members placed with crown side up, and sill gaskets installed directly on cementitious foundations with punctures fitted tight to anchor bolts. Roof sheathing must be fastened perpendicular to framing members with staggered ends and ends over firm bearing, using sheathing clips between sheets and #10 screws at 6" on center for cold-formed steel rafter/joists. Wall sheathing must be secured with long dimension parallel to wall studs and ends over firm bearing, fastened to APA standards unless a nailing schedule is provided on project drawings. Framing members are subject to a tolerance of ½" from true position, maximum. Submittals require manufacturer's/fabricator's certificates and compliance with submittal procedures outlined in Section 01 33 00.
