About this file

This is a technical specification document for concrete curing procedures prepared by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc., applicable to the Elizabethtown Area Water Authority's Water Main Replacement Project Phase 4 (Contract No. WR-4). The specification establishes requirements for initial and final curing of horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces in compliance with American Concrete Institute (ACI) standards, including ACI 301, ACI 302.1, and ACI 308.1, as well as ASTM International standards ASTM C171 and ASTM C309. The document mandates the use of membrane-curing compounds compliant with ASTM C309 Type 1, Class B for horizontal surfaces, which must be cured using the Moist Cover Curing method in accordance with ACI 308.1, while vertical surfaces require curing using the Moist Curing method. Acceptable materials include absorptive mats conforming to AASHTO M182 Class 3 (burlap cloth or cotton), moisture-retaining covers per ASTM C171 (polyethylene film or white burlap-polyethylene sheet), and potable water. The specification requires submittal of manufacturer's information on all curing compounds, mats, paper, and film prior to application, with materials to be delivered in original manufacturer packaging and stored in clean, dry locations protected from moisture and dust.

The specification prohibits traffic over unprotected floor surfaces and requires verification that substrate surfaces are ready for curing prior to application. All work must be performed in accordance with ACI 301 specifications for structural concrete and must comply with examination and execution requirements outlined in Section 01 73 00. No pricing, set-asides, or incumbent contractor information is contained within this technical specification document, as it represents standard engineering requirements applicable to concrete work within the water main replacement project rather than procurement terms or financial arrangements.
