About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) document for cleaning, assessment, repair, and preservation work on the USS RALPH JOHNSON (DDG-114) Forepeak Tank (4-P-0-W) and replacement of its manhole assembly. The work involves cleaning and assessing the tank's preservation coating, structural integrity, deterioration, pitting, and cracks, as well as replacing the existing 23" x 15" flush deck water-tight manhole assembly. The scope includes work in the Forepeak Tank, Windlass Machinery Room, and Anchor Holding Equipment Storeroom.
The work period is scheduled for July 14, 2025 to August 21, 2025, with an estimated material cost of $4,650 and 901 total man-hours. Key requirements include Level III cleanliness for piping systems, non-flammable closure fabrication for fire zone boundary work, and preservation of 158 square feet of defective painted surfaces. The government will provide various support services including crane operations, utilities, safety inspections, and gas-free inspections. The work affects multiple ship systems including sounding tubes, tank vents, overflows, piping, structural members, ladders, anodes, and tank level indicators. One new manhole assembly (stock number LL4639459) will be provided as government-furnished material.
