About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) document for cleaning, assessing, and repairing the Main Reduction Gear (MRG) Lubricating Oil Sump Tank on the USS RALPH JOHNSON (DDG-114). The work involves a 2,244-gallon tank (5-254-6-F) located in Engine Room No. 2, including maintenance of two manhole cover plates and air vent hose connection cover plates with associated bolting rings.
The work is scheduled for July 14, 2025 through December 11, 2025 at Yokosuka Naval Base. Key requirements include tank assessment for preservation coating, structural integrity, deterioration, pitting, cracks, and damage; base metal weld buildup of plate defects (36 square inches total); and implementation of Level II cleanliness standards for piping systems/equipment. The work requires physical security controls and Ship's Force Engineering Officer permission for MRG Lube Oil system work. SRF-JRMC will provide various support services including crane operations, utilities, safety inspections, and technical support. The document includes appendices for job summary information, material lists, and deficiency reporting.
