About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) document for cleaning, assessing, and repairing the Controllable Pitch Propeller Hydraulic Oil Sump Tank (4-208-1-F) aboard the USS RALPH JOHNSON (DDG-114). The work is to be performed in Engine Room No. One, with specific focus on a 1,199-gallon capacity tank and two manhole cover plates (sizes 15"x23" and 15"x18") with associated bolting rings.
The work period is scheduled from July 14, 2025 to December 11, 2025, requiring Level II cleanliness standards for piping system/equipment as specified by SURFMEPP. The scope includes conducting assessments of preservation coating, structural integrity, deterioration, pitting, cracks, and various tank components including sounding tubes, vents, piping, structural members, and access points. The TGI specifies base metal weld buildup requirements for plate defects in the tank bottom/sump, limiting individual buildup areas to 2 inches in diameter with a quarter-inch thickness. The document includes 429 total man-hours with a project number K52 and is marked as FOUO (For Official Use Only).
