About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) document for cleaning, assessing, and repairing the Controllable Pitch Propeller Hydraulic Oil Sump Tank (4-254-2-F) on the USS RALPH JOHNSON (DDG-114). The work is scheduled to be performed between July 14, 2025 and December 11, 2025 in Engine Room No. 2.
The TGI details specific requirements for a 1,286-gallon hydraulic oil sump tank, including inspection of preservation coating, structural integrity, and assessment for deterioration, pitting, cracks, and damage. The work includes Level II general cleaning requirements, repairs involving base metal weld buildup of plate defects (limited to 2-inch diameter areas, quarter-inch thick), and installation of manhole covers and air vent hose connections. The document specifies equipment details such as a 15" x 23" steel manhole cover plate and 10" diameter air vent hose connection cover plate. Support services will be provided by SRF-JRMC, including crane operations, utility services, safety inspections, and quality assurance inspections. The work requires SURFMEPP oversight and Level II cleanliness for piping system/equipment.
