About this file
This is an electrical design detail drawing for the Portland International Airport North Runway Rehabilitation project located in Oregon. The document provides technical specifications for the reinstallation and installation of two types of elevated airfield lighting systems: runway guard lights and red elevated stop bar lights. Both lighting installations are to be positioned in shoulder AC pavement and include specific requirements for aim angles (5 degrees and 20 degrees up from horizon, respectively), conduit routing, grounding systems, and structural components such as frangible couplings, base cans, and PVC ground rods. The drawing was prepared by the design team including Gene Tupper, M. Tieaskie, M. Dettmer, and registered professional engineer J. Nelson (PE 15521), with a date of October 2026 and a design expiration of December 31, 2026.
The technical specifications detail precise installation requirements including 2-inch PVC ground rods measuring 3/4 inch diameter and 10 feet long, 12-inch diameter by 24-inch deep base cans, #6 bare copper conductors to be connected via exothermic weld, and grommeted conduit extensions. Grounding must be positioned a minimum of 12 inches from the base can with the top of the ground rod at least 6 inches below finished surface. Conduit shall extend 2 inches into the can after backfilling and stabilization, with silicone sealant applied between flange rings and extensions. The drawing references related details on sheet E5.04 and includes general notes addressing installation procedures, grounding specifications, and finishing requirements for both lighting systems.
