About this file
This is a specification document for truck load covers issued by MaineDOT (Maine Department of Transportation). The document outlines detailed requirements for the procurement and installation of roll-up truck load covers designed to accommodate asphalt and other materials on MaineDOT vehicles of 54,000 pounds or larger. The specifications require covers constructed of RFL-treated, latex-coated woven polyester fabric capable of withstanding temperatures up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and compatible with existing MaineDOT load cover systems. Each cover must feature a roll-up mechanism with an aluminum windscreen, mounting capability to the truck body headboard, and an electric motor system, specifically a Donovan Bullet model #2858 or approved equivalent, with integrated dash-mounted controls. The specifications also require adjustable, anodized aluminum cover arms designed to remain flush with the truck body sides when retracted, extra spring tension to prevent cover movement during transport, and accommodation for hopper sanders and loads during winter operations.
The specifications establish a three-year warranty requirement on the electric motor and stipulate that any cover sailing or performance issues occurring after installation and delivery to Fleet Services must be corrected at no cost by the manufacturer. The document does not contain information regarding pricing, quantities of vehicles to be equipped, bidding deadlines, contract term length, funding sources, or award dates, suggesting this specification represents one component of a larger procurement solicitation document.
