About this file
This is a specification document for truck load covers required by MaineDOT (Maine Department of Transportation). The document outlines detailed technical requirements for roll-up truck load covers designed to protect asphalt loads during transport. The covers must be manufactured from RFL-treated, latex-coated woven polyester yarn fabric capable of withstanding temperatures up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and must be compatible with existing MaineDOT load cover systems. Each cover shall feature a roll-up mechanism with an aluminum windscreen, be mountable to the truck body headboard, and include a Donovan Bullet model #2858 electric direct drive motor or approved equivalent with a three-year warranty. The specification requires cover arms to be anodized aluminum with adjustable length, a dash-integrated control switch, and enhanced spring tension to prevent cover displacement during vehicle operation.
The specification addresses covers for vehicles with 54,000-pound or larger capacity, which must accommodate both standard loads and, in winter conditions, hopper sanders with loads. Control systems must be clearly labeled and integrated into the truck dashboard for operator convenience. The manufacturer is required to correct any cover sailing issues that occur after installation and delivery to Fleet Services at no additional cost, ensuring performance accountability. The document does not include pricing information, contract term details, response deadlines, or quantities of covers required.
