About this file
This is a specifications document for a power reversing under-frame road scraper equipment for the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) Fleet Services. The scraper is designed for installation on 6x4 plow trucks and must meet specific technical requirements including a 10-foot mold board length with a 9-foot cleared swath at approximately 35 degrees, approximately 13 inches high corten steel construction, and the ability to maintain minimum 9 inches of road clearance when tilted. The equipment must feature hydraulic reversing capability for right or left discharge, integral shock absorbing safety trip device, hydraulic raising and lowering controls operable from the cab either electrically or manually, and compatibility with existing MaineDOT plow, wing, and sander controls. Additional requirements include double nitride coated hydraulic cylinder rams, quick detachability for summer operation, a hydraulic relief valve set at 500 PSI, and finishing with two coats of rust-proof primer and lead-free DuPont 3.5 Imron High Gloss Plow Yellow paint. The vendor must supply one parts and repair manual and one operator's manual per unit.
The specifications require that the scraper be installed in strict accordance with manufacturer specifications, with any necessary vehicle modifications requiring approval from both the vehicle manufacturer and MaineDOT Fleet Services at the vendor/installer's expense. The mounting side plate must accommodate multiple height variations from side to side with multiple holes to allow adjustment for truck lean or severely crowned roads. All components and controls must be fully compatible with equipment currently in use by MaineDOT Fleet Services. The scraper must be manufactured to withstand heavy-duty design and construction standards for extreme service conditions.
