About this file
This is a specifications document for truck load covers required by MaineDOT (Maine Department of Transportation). The document outlines the technical requirements for Item 2, which is a truck load cover system designed for use on MaineDOT vehicles, specifically trucks with capacities of 54,000 pounds or larger. The specifications detail the fabric composition, cover mechanism, motor specifications, and general design requirements for the load cover system. The cover must be compatible with existing MaineDOT load cover systems and capable of accommodating both standard loads and, in winter conditions, hopper sanders alongside loads.
The specifications require the load cover fabric to be constructed of RFL-treated latex-coated woven polyester yarn fabric capable of withstanding hot asphalt temperatures up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The cover mechanism must feature a roll-up type system with an aluminum windscreen, electric motor (Donovan Bullet model #2858 or approved equivalent with three-year warranty), and a dash-integrated control switch. Additional requirements include anodized aluminum adjustable cover arms, extra spring tension to prevent cover movement during transit, and manufacturer responsibility for correcting any cover sailing issues post-delivery at no cost. The manufacturer must ensure all components are properly integrated with the truck body headboard and designed to remain retracted below the body sides.
