About this file
This is a Scope of Work specification document for the Maine Department of Transportation, Fleet Services division, detailing requirements for a hydraulically reversible plow system with left or right wing capabilities for winter snow removal operations. The specification encompasses a complete plow assembly including a custom-designed hitch system, a reversible moldboard plow with hydraulic contour-changing capabilities, left or right hand wing plows suitable for either 32,000 or 54,000 GVW vehicles, and a high-tower cable-hydraulic operating system. The hitch assembly must feature quick-detachable pivoting construction with three pinning heights, accommodate various plow frame interchangeability, and include a 4-inch diameter plow ram with 14-inch stroke. The reversible plow must be 11 feet in length with a cleared path of 9 feet at 35-degree swing, feature height adjustment from 33 to 51 inches, and include six torsion-type trip springs with approximately 1,900 foot-pound initial tripping force. The wing plow specifications vary by vehicle GVW, with overall blade lengths of 10 to 12 feet and heavy-duty moldboard construction using ten-gauge steel with reversible C-1085 cutting edges.
The hydraulic system must utilize a 4.33 CID load-sense pump (Rexroth model A10V071 or approved equivalent) with a 40-gallon oil reservoir, supplemented by a 6.1 CID load-sense pump for optional hook lift systems. All hydraulic valving must be centralized in a single assembly housed in a weatherproof ten-gauge enclosure, with dual control levers mounted in the cab using Quadco Model C-81 levers and stainless steel cables. The system requires a full-flow return line filter with ten-micron filtration, an in-line high-pressure filter, and low-oil safety circuits with automatic shutdown capability. All equipment must be delivered primed with two coats of lead-free rust-proof primer and finished with lead-free Dupont Imron High Gloss Plow Yellow paint, thoroughly inspected and serviced, and accompanied by ten parts and repair manuals. The contractor must ensure all components are compatible with existing Fleet Services equipment, that main plow and wings can be installed or removed by one person, that all hydraulic cylinders are double-nitrided and easily rebuildable, and that the system meets comprehensive safety, wiring, and professional installation standards.
