About this file
This is a specifications document for truck load covers issued by MaineDOT (Maine Department of Transportation). The document outlines detailed requirements for the procurement and installation of truck load covers designed to accommodate hot asphalt temperatures and integrate with MaineDOT's existing fleet vehicles. The load covers must feature RFL (Resorcinol Formaldehyde Latex) coated latex woven polyester yarn fabric capable of withstanding temperatures up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and must be compatible with all existing MaineDOT load cover systems. The covers shall include a roll-up type mechanism with an aluminum windscreen, electric motor operation (specifically a Donovan Bullet model #2858 or approved equivalent), and mounting capability to the vehicle body headboard, with a three-year warranty required on the electric motor.
The specifications establish comprehensive operational and design requirements for the load covers, including dash-integrated control switches that are clearly labeled, anodized aluminum arms with adjustable lengths and bent configuration to remain within body sides when retracted, and enhanced spring tension to prevent cover movement during vehicle operation. For vehicles with 54,000-pound capacity or larger, covers must accommodate both the truck body and load, and in winter conditions, must also accommodate a hopper sander and load. The manufacturer is required to correct any cover sailing issues that occur after installation and delivery to Fleet Services at no additional cost, ensuring performance accountability and quality assurance.
