About this file
This is a specifications document for Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) Fleet Services detailing requirements for hydraulic power reversing under-frame road scrapers designed for 6x4 plow trucks. The scrapers must feature hydraulic reversing capability for right or left discharge, a 10-foot mold board length, and a 9-foot cleared swath at approximately 35 degrees. Key specifications include a moldboard constructed of 3/4-inch corten steel approximately 13 inches high, a minimum 9-inch road clearance when tilted, and an integral shock-absorbing safety trip device. The equipment must include hydraulic raising and lowering mechanisms with relief valves set at 500 PSI, operate from the cab either electrically or manually in commonality with existing plow controls, and feature a ¾-inch by 6-inch carbide cutting edge with standard AASHTO punching. The scraper must be quick-detachable for summer operation and approved equal to Wasau brand specifications.
All installations must comply with manufacturer specifications and be compatible with equipment currently in use by Fleet Services/MaineDOT. Double nitride-coated hydraulic cylinder rams must be easily rebuildable, and mounting side plates must accommodate multiple height variations and truck lean or crowned road conditions. The vendor/installer is responsible for any required vehicle modifications, which must be approved by both the vehicle and scraper manufacturers as well as MaineDOT. Documentation requirements include one parts and repair manual and one operator's manual per unit. The equipment must be finished with two coats of rust-proof primer and lead-free DuPont 3.5 Imron High Gloss Plow Yellow paint, meeting heavy-duty design and construction standards for extreme service conditions.
