Dam Safety Services-Jackson Bluff Dam Contract CN 335 TA16, Change Order 1

February 18th, 2022

Subtask 12 – Radial Gate Lifting Bracket Analysis and Plans Description:

The Taylor Engineering team analyzed the structural components of the current lifting assembly and the anchor plate connecting it to the tainter gate for the radial gates at the Jackson Bluff dam to determine if the system meets the requirements of ASME BTH-1, which is the current industry standard. Based on these analyses, we determined that the current lifting cable assembly and anchor plate are structurally inadequate, and that the lifting assembly needs to be redesigned to meet current industry standards.

CONSULTANT Taylor Engineering Inc. and their sub-consultant Mead & Hunt, Inc. (Mead & Hunt) will provide the following amended services as follows: We will redesign the structural components of the current lifting cable assembly and the anchor plate connecting it to the gate to meet the requirements of

ASME BTH-1, which is the current industry standard. It is assumed that the design will be used only on gates that have the same gate hoists or have the same or less lifting capacity as Gate Nos. 5 – 7. We will prepare a new design memorandum that will include our design calculations. The Scope of Services of the original Task Order included time to prepare construction drawings for the current lifting cable assembly. This remaining time will be sufficient to prepare construction drawings for the strengthened lifting cable assembly. Our Amended Scope of Services does not include redesign or replacement of the existing cables that attach to the lifting cable assemblies.

Deliverables The Taylor Engineering Team will provide the following deliverables to the FDEP:

Draft and Final design memorandum and construction drawings ................ 1 copy via email (PDF file)

Performance Measures Deliverables will be reviewed by the FDEP to confirm they are complete, accurate, and timely.
