About this file
This is a specification section for passive vehicle barriers as part of the VA Bedford Health Care System's EHRM Infrastructure Upgrades project (Project #518-22-700).
The specification requires the installation of stationary anti-ram rated vehicle barriers at building entrances. Contractors must comply with ASTM F2656/F2656M-15 (Crash Testing of Vehicle Security Barriers) and United States Department of State SD-STD02.01-Revision A (Vehicle Crash Testing of Perimeter Barriers and Gates). Submittal requirements include detailed shop drawings showing barrier size, configuration, fabrication and installation details, dimensions and clearances relative to adjacent construction, and setting drawings with templates for anchors and embedded concrete foundations. Delegated design drawings and calculations must be signed and sealed by a responsible design professional. Contractors must verify field conditions affecting barrier installation and show measurements on submittal drawings. The specification cross-references related work sections including cast-in-place concrete, unit masonry, metal fabrications for pipe bollards, and driveway paving. Quality assurance includes test mockups verifying compliance with specified performance requirements. Construction warranty requirements are governed by FAR clause 52.246-21.
