About this file
This document is a specification section for decorative film installation as part of the VA Bedford Health Care System EHRM Infrastructure Upgrades project (Project #518-22-700).
The specification requires furnishing labor, materials, tools, equipment, and services for decorative film installation in accordance with contract documents. The manufacturer must have a minimum of ten years of experience in decorative film manufacturing, while the installer must have a minimum of five years of experience installing products of the same type and scope. Both products and installation services must be provided by single manufacturers and installers respectively. The primary manufacturer specified is 3M Commercial Graphics Division, with allowance for other manufacturers to submit proposals provided they meet the salient characteristics outlined in the specification. Accessories required include edge sealer, premasking tape, and prespacing tape from 3M Commercial Graphics Division, provided as necessary for installation and durability. Installation must follow manufacturer's instructions, with film edges cut and trimmed neatly at a distance of 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch from the edge of rebate or glass at jambs, corners, and joints using sharp blades. The specification prohibits installation on glass with edge damage and requires inspection of glazing surfaces and field verification of film sizes prior to installation. Upon completion, all leftover materials and debris must be removed, damaged panels repaired or replaced, and work protected from damage by other trades. A manufacturer's standard three-year warranty against defects in material or workmanship is required, along with submission of manufacturer's data sheets, product samples, maintenance data, and fire performance data including fire class and NFPA test numbers.
