This document is a section from the specifications for sheet metal flashing and trim to be used in the HAVO 305150 Phase II project at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The key details are:

The sheet metal flashing and trim must be custom-fabricated to comply with the design, dimensions, metal thickness, and other requirements specified. Prefinished aluminum is required for flashing associated with the roofing system, and Type 304 stainless steel painted is required for gutters, leaders, and downspouts. The installation must result in a watertight, weather-resistant system that can withstand wind loads, structural movement, and thermal expansion. Specific requirements are provided for seams, joints, fasteners, and expansion provisions. The contractor must examine the substrates, verify compliance with installation tolerances, and correct any unsatisfactory conditions prior to installation. The work must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the cited sheet metal standard.

SECTION 07 62 00 – SHEET METAL FLASHING AND TRIM

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 COORDINATION

A. Coordinate sheet metal flashing and trim layout and seams with sizes and locations of penetrations to be flashed, and joints and seams in adjacent materials.

B. Coordinate sheet metal flashing and trim installation with adjoining roofing and wall materials, joints, and seams to provide leakproof, secure, and noncorrosive installation.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Shop Drawings

B. Material samples, minimum 6 inches by 6 inches.

1.3 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Do not store prefinished sheet metal flashing and trim materials in contact with other materials that might cause staining, denting, or other surface damage.

1. Store sheet metal flashing and trim materials away from uncured concrete and masonry.

2. Protect stored sheet metal flashing and trim from contact with water.

B. Protect strippable protective covering on sheet metal flashing and trim from exposure to sunlight and high humidity, except to extent necessary for period of sheet metal flashing and trim installation.

1.4 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Sheet metal flashing and trim assemblies, including cleats, anchors, and fasteners, are to withstand wind loads, structural movement, thermally induced movement, and exposure to weather without failure due to defective manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction.

Completed sheet metal flashing and trim are not to rattle, leak, or loosen, and are to remain watertight.

B. Sheet Metal Standard for Flashing and Trim: Comply with SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" requirements for dimensions and profiles shown unless more stringent requirements are indicated.

C. Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes to prevent buckling, opening of joints, overstressing of components, failure of joint sealants, failure of connections, and other detrimental effects. Base calculations on surface temperatures of materials due to both solar heat gain and nighttime-sky heat loss.
