About this file

This is a product specification and performance document for the Greenheck Spun Aluminum Model GRSI/GRSR/GRSF gravity ventilators. The document provides detailed construction features, dimensions, and performance data for intake and relief ventilation units designed for natural gravity or positive pressure systems.

The GRSI model serves as an intake ventilator while the GRSR model functions as a relief unit, with both available in sizes ranging from 8 to 48 inches. Key construction features include all-aluminum exterior for corrosion resistance, integral birdscreen to prevent bird and debris entry, built-in curb cap with pre-punched attachment holes, and an optional flashing flange (GRSF model) for installations without roof curbs. The units deliver broad performance capacity up to 18,400 CFM (31,300 m³/hr) with advanced weather protection and extended durability through extensive life testing. A comprehensive dimensions table specifies measurements, damper sizes, curb and shroud thickness, and unit weights for all available model sizes. Performance tables present intake and relief capacities at varying total pressure drops from 0.04 to 0.35 inches water gauge, with maximum recommended intake velocities not exceeding 600 feet per minute to prevent moisture intrusion. Recommended maximum intake CFM values are provided for each size based on 600 ft/min velocity standards, and the document includes guidance that 12-inch or higher curbs are advisable in areas with significant snow depths. Complementary accessories include gravity or motorized dampers, prefab curbs, and protective coatings to enhance performance and service life.

Performance Performance data for these units was obtained through actual testing.

The information is presented in capacity versus total pressure drop through the GRS. Total pressure drop includes the static and velocity pressure drops. To find the static drop alone, use the following equations.

The data is presented for both discharge and intake units. The intake velocity of the intake unit should not exceed 600 feet per minute. Above this velocity, airborne particles may be carried into the building. The table below displays the maximum recommended values for the respective intake units. In areas where snow depths may be a problem, 12 inch (305 mm) or higher curbs are recommended.

Table is based on 600 ft/min.
