About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) document for replacing aircraft securing fittings on the flight deck of USS HOWARD (DDG-83). The work involves removing existing and installing new aircraft securing fittings (Type XIV-A and Type VII) between frames 399-473 on both port and starboard sides of the main deck. The scope includes installing 20 Type XIV-A fittings and 5 Type VII fittings made of forged steel, fabricating 4 GO-NO-GO gauges, and conducting non-destructive testing inspections of welds and surfaces.
The work is scheduled to be performed between April 15, 2025 and July 29, 2025 at Yokosuka Naval Base. The document specifies detailed technical requirements including material specifications (ASTM A322 GR-8620 and GR-4130), inspection procedures, and acceptance criteria. Special requirements note that the work affects a fire zone boundary and requires fabrication of non-flammable closures. The TGI includes engineering drawings showing installation details and flight deck tiedown locations, along with a material list specifying the quantities and stock numbers for required components. The work will be supported by various SRF-JRMC services including crane operations, utilities, safety inspections, and technical support.
