About this file
This is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for inspection, repair and preservation work in Auxiliary Machinery Room No. One on the USS HOWARD (DDG-83). The work involves removing, replacing and repairing multiple components including box strainer plate assemblies, valves, flanged piping sections, zinc anodes, pipe hangers, grating supports, cable hanger assemblies, and chocks. The work also includes bilge drain well assessments, ultrasonic thickness measurements, and preservation of structural plating and surfaces.
The contractor work period is scheduled for April 7, 2025 through July 29, 2025. Key requirements include Level III cleanliness for piping systems/equipment and fabrication of non-flammable closures for fire zone boundary work. The TGI includes detailed material specifications, such as CRES 316L for strainer plates and ASTM A588 steel for structural components. Government Furnished Material includes insulation, adhesives, fasteners, plates, studs, pipe hangers and other components detailed in Appendix M. The work will be performed at multiple locations including auxiliary machinery room, engine room, fuel tanks, and waste drain collecting tanks. SRF-JRMC will provide crane services, utilities, safety inspections, and technical support.
