Listed in Demolition General Notes on Drawing A-101: #9 states, “Properly abate and dispose of all lead and asbestos material in project area. Assume any locations with existing floor material and the sinks in the area of work have asbestos.
Removal and disposal of asbestos materials should be in compliance with spec section 02 82 16”. Is there an available asbestos survey or report to see results and what areas were tested? Does existing Floor Material include Tile and Mastic? Did anything come back positive for Lead? In areas with carpet, does the VCT run underneath it, and is that positive for asbestos?

Fire alarm demolition note on drawing A-101 requires existing fire alarm system to be tested “before proceeding with any work related to this project”. Please clarify required scope of this preliminary testing.
Testing a Simplex 4010 Fire Alarm System requires following proper procedures to ensure safety and compliance with NFPA 72 standards. Here’s a step-by-step guide to performing a basic system test:
1. Notify Authorities & Building Occupants:
Inform the monitoring station and local fire department (if system is monitored) to avoid false alarms. Notify building occupants of the test to prevent panic.
2. Access the Simplex 4010 Control Panel:
Open the fire alarm control panel (FACP) using the access key.
Enter the authorized user password if prompted.
3. Initiate the Test Mode: Navigate to System Test Mode in the menu. This mode prevents alarms from triggering external monitoring stations but still allows system function testing.
4. Test Notification Appliances (Alarms & Strobes): Activate a manual pull station to verify proper alarm activation. Check that strobes flash and horns/speakers sound correctly. Reset the pull station after activation.
5. Test Smoke & Heat Detectors: Use a canned smoke tester for smoke detectors. Use a heat gun (not an open flame) for heat detectors.
Confirm that each detector triggers the alarm and is displayed on the panel.
6. Verify System Communication & Signals: Check that the panel receives and displays each alarm signal correctly. If connected to a monitoring station, confirm the signal was received.
7. Reset the System:
Once testing is complete, reset each activated device (e.g., smoke detectors, pull stations): On the 4010 panel, press the “System Reset” button to clear alarms and restore normal operation.
8. Log the Test & Restore Normal Operation: Record the test results, including device activations and any issues found.
Notify the monitoring station and building personnel that the system is back in normal operation.
