About this file
This document is a technical specification section (Section 08 91 00) for Metal Wall Louvers for the FY24 MCON P-614 Joint Consolidated Communications Center at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. The specification details requirements for wind-resistant metal wall louvers made of Type 316 stainless steel or aluminum, with specific performance standards including a wind load resistance of at least 30 pounds per square foot and water penetration rating of 0.20 ounces or less per square foot of free area.
Key technical requirements include 18-by-16 mesh stainless steel insect screening, removable and rewirable screen frames, mullions for louvers over 5 feet wide, and a superior performance organic coating finish with a total dry film thickness of at least 1.2 mils. The specification provides detailed instructions for material selection, fabrication, installation, and protection of louvers, including guidelines for handling dissimilar materials to prevent corrosion and ensure proper performance. Sustainability considerations are also addressed, with provisions for documenting recycled content of the wall louvers.

PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 PRODUCT SUSTAINABILITY CRITERIA
For products in this section, where applicable and to extent allowed by performance criteria, provide and document the following:
2.1.1 Recycled Content for Wall Louvers
Recycled content is identified for some products in this section; provide documentation in accordance with Section 01 33 29 SUSTAINABILITY REQUIREMENTS AND REPORTING paragraph RECYCLED CONTENT. Other products listed in this section may be available with recycled content; identify those products that meet project requirements for recycled content, and provide documentation in accordance with Section 01 33 29 SUSTAINABILITY REQUIREMENTS AND REPORTING paragraph RECYCLED CONTENT.
2.2 MATERIALS
2.2.1 Stainless Steel
Type 316, with 2B finish.
2.3 METAL WALL LOUVERS
Wind resistant type, with insect screens and made to withstand a wind load of not less than 30 pounds per square foot . Wall louvers must bear the AMCA certified ratings program seal for air performance and water penetration in accordance with AMCA 500-L and AMCA 511. The rating must show a water penetration of 0.20 or less ounce per square foot of free area at a free velocity of 800 feet per minute.
2.3.1 Formed Metal Louvers
Formed of Type 316 stainless steel sheet not thinner than 16 U.S. gage, or aluminum sheet not less than 0.08 inch thick.
2.3.2 Mullions and Mullion Covers
Same material and finish as louvers. Provide mullions for all louvers more than 5 feet in width at not more than 5 feet on centers. Provide mullion covers on both faces of joints between louvers.
2.3.3 Screens and Frames
For stainless steel louvers, provide 18-by-16 mesh, 0.011 inch Type 316 stainless steel insect screening. Mount screens in removable, rewirable frames of same material and finish as the louvers.
SECTION 08 91 00 Page 2
2.4 FASTENERS AND ACCESSORIES
Provide Type 316 stainless steel screws and fasteners for stainless steel louvers. Provide other accessories as required for complete and proper installation.
2.5 FINISHES
2.5.1 Stainless Steel
Exposed stainless steel surfaces must be factory finished with an organic coating. Color must be as indicated. Louvers must have the same finish.
