About this file
This is a NASA Procedures and Guidelines (PG) document that defines processes and responsibilities for harness/cable fabrication support at the Goddard Space Flight Center's Code 549 Environmental Test Engineering and Integration Branch. The document (549-PG-8072.0.1A) establishes mandatory compliance requirements for both flight and non-flight harness/cable fabrication work.
The guidelines specify that fabrication technicians must be trained and certified to NASA Workmanship Standards including NASA-STD-8739.4 for crimping and NASA-STD-8739.3 for soldered electrical connections. Key procedural requirements include: receiving Work Order Authorization (WOA) and drawings before fabrication, obtaining customer approval for any changes via redlines, completing required in-process inspections and testing, following material standards when supplying components (GPR 5340.2, MIL-STD-975), and delivering completed hardware with documentation to the customer. The document includes definitions of key roles like Product Design Lead (PDL) and establishes record retention requirements of 5 years for training records. Originally released in 2011, this version was updated in 2015 and revalidated in 2020 with an expiration date of August 26, 2025.
