About this file
This is a NASA Work Instruction (WI) document that establishes procedures for implementing Preventive Maintenance (PM) on aerospace fabrication equipment in the GSFC Advanced Manufacturing Branch Code 547. The directive (547-WI-8072.1.1F) was revalidated with administrative changes on April 23, 2019 and expires April 23, 2024.
The document outlines specific procedures for conducting PM inspections every three months on equipment to verify safe operation at maximum rated capacity and identify any components needing replacement. Key responsibilities include the Lead Maintenance Technician (LMT) assigning equipment lists to Maintenance Personnel (MP), who then inspect equipment and either tag it as operational or initiate corrective maintenance procedures if issues are found. The process requires maintaining an electronic database of PM activities and equipment tags. Safety requirements include proper personal protective equipment like safety shoes and glasses. PM records must be retained for 5 years according to NASA Records Retention Schedule requirements, with monthly reviews by the LMT to ensure completion of scheduled maintenance and proper documentation.

Instructions
1. Based upon the maintenance schedule and machine availability the Lead Maintenance Technician
(LMT) will assign a list of equipment that is due for preventative maintenance to the maintenance personnel (MP).
2. When a piece of equipment is found to be in operating order, i.e., operating at its maximum rated capacity, a tag shall be left on the machine or equipment, which declares that the particular machine has been inspected and maintained for proper operation.
3. When a machine is found not to be in operating order, the LMT will follow 547-WI-8072.1.2, Corrective Maintenance of Aerospace Fabrication Equipment to resolve the problem.
4. Once the maintenance is complete, the MP will update the equipment tag and the electronic database.
5. The LMT receives the completed list of equipment from the MP and verifies that the electronic database was updated.
