About this file
This is a technical specification document (Section 08 91 19) for fixed louvers to be installed at the Armed Forces Retirement Home Sheridan Building. The specification details requirements for fixed extruded-aluminum louvers with drainable blades, which must be 4 inches deep with blade gutters in the rear two-thirds of blades.
The louvers must meet specific performance criteria including a free area of not less than 50%, water penetration resistance at 900 fpm, and air performance with no more than 0.10-inch wg static pressure drop at 700 fpm intake velocity. Approved manufacturers include Airolite Company LLC, Construction Specialties Inc., and Industrial Louvers Inc. The louvers require bird screening made of stainless steel with 1/2-inch square mesh, AMCA certification, and a high-performance two-coat fluoropolymer finish with 70% PVDF resin. The specification includes a 10-year warranty requirement for finish materials and workmanship. Installation must include concealed anchorages where possible and proper protection against corrosion where aluminum contacts concrete, masonry or dissimilar metals.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Delegated Design: Design louvers, including comprehensive engineering analysis by a qualified professional engineer, using structural performance requirements and design criteria indicated.
B. Structural Performance: Louvers shall withstand the effects of gravity loads and the following loads and stresses within limits and under conditions indicated without permanent deformation of louver components, noise or metal fatigue caused by louver-blade rattle or flutter, or permanent damage to fasteners and anchors. Wind pressures shall be considered to act normal to the face of the building.
1. Wind Loads: Determine loads based on pressures as indicated on Drawings.
C. Louver Performance Ratings: Provide louvers complying with requirements specified, as demonstrated by testing manufacturer's stock units identical to those provided, except for length and width according to AMCA 500-L.
2.2 FIXED EXTRUDED-ALUMINUM LOUVERS
A. Horizontal, Continuous-Line, Drainable-Blade Louver: Drainable-blade louver with blade gutters (drains) in rear two-thirds of blades only.
1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following:
a. Airolite Company, LLC (The).
b. Construction Specialties, Inc.
c. Industrial Louvers Inc.
2. Louver Depth: 4 inches (100 mm)
3. Blade Profile: Drainable blade.
4. Frame and Blade Nominal Thickness: Not less than 0.080 inch for blades and 0.080 inch for frames.
5. Mullion Type: Semirecessed.
6. Louver Performance Ratings:
a. Free Area: Not less than 50 percent.
b. Point of Beginning Water Penetration: Not less than 900 fpm (4.6 m/s).
c. Air Performance: Not more than 0.10-inch wg (25-Pa) static pressure drop at 700-fpm (3.6-m/s) free-area intake velocity.
7. AMCA Seal: Mark units with AMCA Certified Ratings Seal.
