About this file
This file is a technical specification (Section 081416) for flush wood doors as part of the Armed Forces Retirement Home Sheridan Building renovation project in Washington, DC. The specification details requirements for solid-core doors with wood-veneer faces for transparent finish, solid-core stile and rail doors with wood-veneer faces, and solid-core doors with opaque finish.
The specification requires premium grade maple wood doors with plain sliced cut and Grade A faces, using either glued wood stave or structural composite lumber cores in five-ply construction. Doors must meet WDMA I.S.1-A Heavy Duty performance grade standards and include factory finishing, fitting, and machining for hardware. Key requirements include proper environmental conditions during installation (60-90°F, 43-70% relative humidity), lifetime warranty for solid-core interior doors, and specific screw withdrawal strength requirements (700 lbf face, 400 lbf edge). Approved manufacturers include Eggers Industries, Marshfield Door Systems, and VT Industries Inc. The doors must be factory-finished with WDMA TR-4 conversion varnish or TR-6 catalyzed polyurethane in a satin sheen.
