About this file
This is a technical specification document (Section 084113) for aluminum-framed entrances and storefronts as part of the Armed Forces Retirement Home Sheridan Building renovation project in Washington, DC. The specification details requirements for exterior storefront framing systems and entrance doors that must comply with ADA/ABA accessibility guidelines.
The document outlines comprehensive performance requirements including wind load resistance of 120 MPH, specific deflection limits, air infiltration maximums, water penetration resistance, thermal performance requirements (U-factor not exceeding 0.45 Btu/sq. ft.), and sound transmission criteria (minimum 35 STC rating). The specified system is the Kawneer North America TriFab 451T VG System with clear anodic finish. Key requirements include thermally broken construction, field-fabricated stick system installation, and a 10-year warranty against defects. The specification includes detailed requirements for quality assurance, testing, fabrication, installation tolerances, and field quality control procedures. For accessible entrance doors, closers must provide a 3-second sweep period from 70 degrees open to 3 inches from the latch.
