Question 1: Is there any off-hours work?
Answer 1: Yes, reference to Nights and Weekend work can be found at note #10 on sheet M-
001 in reference to utility shutdown and Sheets 28-AD111, 28-AD141, 1- AE101, and 28-
AE111 for mechanical shutdown within Phase A2.
Question 2: Will there be a second Site Visit?
Answer 2: There will be a second Pre-Bid Site Visit. It is scheduled for May 4, 2023, at
11:00am. Location: Ann Arbor VAMC, 2215 Fuller Rd., Building 3, Room 106A, 48105
Question 3: On the drawings it is shown where our staging area is at as well as job trailer, are we allowed to park their as well?
Answer 3: Contractors will not be allowed to park at the staging area/job trailer location shown on the plans. See Specifications 01 00 00 General Requirements Part 1.5(E) for parking requirements. See Addendum 01 Section 01 00 00 – 506-20-102 for further clarification.
Question 4: Is the paint to be considered lead based and treated as that for demo? Answer 4:
The Contractor will have to comply with OSHA for all hazardous materials encountered, including lead in any amount. Because the existing report was limited to identifying quantities above 5,000 ppm (XRF analyzer), to comply with OSHA the Contractor should presume paint is lead-containing unless tested to not contain lead by the Contractor during construction.
Question 5: Are we to move all the boxes of material from the original electrical shop to the new electrical shop on the 10th floor, or is it just the shelfs themselves?
Answer 5: Loose items like boxes, equipment, etc. will be moved by VA personnel.
Contractor will need to give Three (3) weeks’ notice prior to beginning demolition in Phase
A2 so the VA can move items. See drawing notes on 28-AD111 for items that are to be removed by the Contractor. Unless noted otherwise, these items are not being relocated, just removed (e.g., Notes 19, 20, 21, etc.).
Question 6: Can you please provide us with a correct wage determination?
Answer 6: If there is an update to Wage Determination MI20230101 it will be posted in an
Amendment.
Question 7: Has an Asbestos Survey been performed?
Answer 7: A campus-wide asbestos survey was performed in 2019 and is referenced in the
Division 2 Asbestos specifications. What is not covered in this report will be an unforeseen condition during construction. See Asbestos Assessment-07.2022 –506-20-102
Question 8: On drawing 1-AE114 drawing note 4 it calls for a handrail/crash rail combo, but it doesn't specify what it is.
Answer 8: Note 4 on 1-AE114 calls for a RESILIENT WALL GUARD HANDRAIL
COMBINATION. Specification 10 26 00 Wall and Door Protection, Part 2.3.A shows requirements for "Resilient Wall Guards and Handrails"... Item 1 of this section if for "Handrail/Wall Guard Combination". Detail 10 on sheet 28-AE311 shows what this combination product looks like, including dimensions.
Question 9: On drawing 1-AE116 drawing note 11 it calls out a stainless-steel wall mounted guard object, is there a detail on this so that I can see what it looks like? Answer 9: A detail was not provided. However, installation will be similar to Detail 10 on sheet 28-AE311. The intent is that devices such as card readers are not ripped off the wall when a passing cart gets too close to the wall. A stainless-steel wedge/curve of some sort (as dimensioned) would suffice. These features are entirely serving non- patient space and are for functional purposes.
There are several options for wall guards that curve back to the wall and protrude 3" from the wall, thus meeting the intent. Install per manufacturer’s requirements.
Question 10: Will CPIH be required on this project? If so, to what extent? Survey? Air
Monitoring?
Answer 10: Specification 02 82 11, Part 1.5.2 shows the responsibilities of the Contractor regarding Asbestos Abatement and shows the contractor will need to provide a CIH. See definition of CPIH/CIH. Part 2.2 describes monitoring, inspection , and testing. Contractor must comply with OSHA and additional specifications not mentioned within this response.
Question 11: Is there DOAS-1 or 1-AHU-1 scheduled?
Answer 11: DOAS-1 is scheduled on sheet M601 (Air Handling Unit Schedule). 1-AHU- 2 is also in this schedule. There is not a 1-AHU-1 in this project.
Question 12: Part 2 Products/Section 2.2 Lift Unit/B-1, Page: 11 73 00-3. Will an 800 lb. lift be acceptable for the morgue?
Answer 12: A 800 lb. lift is acceptable. Refer to 2.2 LIFT UNIT in attachment Addendum 01
Section 11 73 00 – 506-20-102.
Question 13: Part 2 Products/Section 2.5 Charger A. Charger, Page 11 73 00-4. Is the VA looking for a wall charger, or in-rail charging for the patient lifts?
Answer 13: In-rail charging. Refer to 2.5 CHARGER in the attachment Addendum 01 Section
11 73 00 – 506-20-102.
Question 14: Please clarify the intent: Attached are snips from Three (3) separate drawing that all relate to the same are in the building. The demolition drawing shows key note #3, ceiling and grid demolition. The RCP shows new ceiling. The Fire Protection drawing appears to identify adding a dry pendant sprinkler head in the new morgue cooler. Is the fire protection contractor to interpret the variation of patterns (shown in the fire protection legend) as the full area to consider rework and revision of the fire suppression system?
Answer 14: Please note, first snip is showing demolition in Phase A3, and the next two snips are showing new work in Phase A2 (not the same areas). The fire protection drawings show a dry pendant head in the morgue cooler, yes. Full fire protection criteria is shown on sheets
1-FX101, 28-FX101, and specifications. Criteria documents provided are to assist contractor with the modification of the existing system to accommodate the new architectural layout.
Fire protection design will be sealed by a fire protection engineer by the Contractor.
