About this file
This is a specification section for valves and hydrants for water utility service, establishing requirements for components of a Pressure Reducing Valve gallery serving water distribution systems.
The specification requires delivery of twelve primary component types: pressure reducing valves, transition devices, gate valves, strainers, combination air and vacuum valves, ball valves, duckbill check valves, reduced pressure principle backflow preventers, pipe adapters, pipe couplings, flange connections, and pipe supports. Pressure reducing control valves must be hydraulically operated with single diaphragm actuation, ductile iron or cast steel bodies, bronze or stainless steel trim, and class 150 or 300 pressure ratings up to 400 psi maximum. All water system components require NSF 61 certification and lead-free certification to NSF/ANSI 372. Strainers must use H-style construction with 316 stainless steel mesh in standard 10-mesh (2000 micron) configuration. Gate valves require non-rising stem design compliant with ANSI/AWWA C515 and UL 262 listing. All ductile iron fittings must be fusion bonded epoxy coated. Work must conform to State of California Waterworks Standards, National Park Service regulations, NFPA 24 for fire water systems, and UL 246 for fire hydrants. Factory assembly and testing are mandatory, with quality management systems certified to ISO 9001:2008. Submittals must include manufacturer installation instructions, shop drawings detailing gallery valve assemblies with dimensions and field assembly methods, manufacturer certificates, and field pressure test and disinfection reports. Upon delivery, a factory representative must be made available for start-up service, inspection, and adjustments.
