About this file
This is a specification section for temporary facilities and controls required during construction operations (Section 01 50 00 from contract DEVA-318717). The section establishes comprehensive requirements for temporary utilities, support facilities, and security and protection measures that contractors must provide throughout the construction period.
The contractor must provide temporary toilets segregated by gender in weatherproof, sight-proof, handicap-accessible enclosures maintained weekly and completely removed upon project completion. A separate Contracting Officer (CO) Field Office is required as a prefabricated, job-built, or mobile structure of minimum 80 square feet in excellent condition with air conditioning, heating, operable windows, security screens, paneling or painted walls, resilient flooring, exterior door with dead bolt keyed from outside, 20-square-foot landing and steps, broadband access, and phone connection. Temporary utilities must include non-potable water from campus hydrants (no trucking potable water required), SCE temporary power drop or generator of sufficient capacity, temporary lighting with local switching, and satellite communication for contractor crews. Support facilities must use incombustible construction within 50 feet of building lines per NFPA 241. The contractor must install orange plastic safety barrier fencing (minimum 4 feet height), portable UL-rated fire extinguishers (one per 1,500 square feet with 75-foot maximum travel distance to nearest extinguisher), and temporary fire protection compliant with NFPA 241 including a designated fire protection responsible person. Additional requirements include traffic control per MUTCD standards, dust control treatment, equipment cleaning to prevent exotic species introduction, erosion and sedimentation control, historic and cultural resource protection including historic utility tunnel preservation, environmental protection measures, and parking in designated areas. All temporary facilities must be removed at Substantial Completion, with permanent facilities cleaned and renovated for occupancy.
