About this file
This document outlines the requirements for hull freeboard cleaning and painting as part of the regular overhaul and dry docking of the USNS ARCTIC (T-AOE 8). The Navy seeks to clean and paint approximately 48,300 square feet of the ship's hull from the waterline up to the 01 deck level as well as 15,000 square feet of the 01 deck surfaces and bulwarks. The scope includes removing and reinstalling deck fittings and markings, blasting the hull to a near white metal finish, and applying a three-coat paint system consisting of Amercoat 240 oxide red, haze gray, and Amershield haze gray. The contractor must contain, collect and dispose of all waste water and debris from cleaning and blasting operations according to environmental regulations. The Navy will provide oversight through a government paint representative and completion is required before the ship's departure from dry dock.
