As a temporary repair, owner elected to weld a 24 inch OD by 3/8 inch lap plate over each of the leaking tank cleaning openings in the Auxiliary Machinery Room. A total of four (4) lap plates were installed at the following locations:
1. Frame 115 forward of the No. 1 AC Plant starboard side between between longitudinals L4 and L5.
2. Frame 115 forward of the No. 2 AC Plant port side between between longitudinals L4 and L5, underneath the stairway into the Auxiliary Machinery Room.
3. Frame 145 aft of the No. 2 AC Plant port side between between longitudinals L4 and L5.
4. Frame 145 forward of the escape trunk starboard side between at longitudinal L4.
The welded lap plates were examined, welds tested for tightness and confirmed to have no leaks.
