ABSTRACT
1.1 This item describes the requirements to replace the forward crankshaft seal of 3 Ship Service Diesel Generator (SSDG) using Authorized Manufacturer’s Technical Representative, labor and materials.

NOTES
1.8 The Contractor and all subcontractors, regardless of tier must consult the General Technical Requirements (GTR) to determine applicability to this work item. In performance of this work item, the contractor and all subcontractors regardless of tier must comply with the requirements of all GTR’s.
1.9 The Contractor and all subcontractors regardless of tier are advised to review other work items under this contract to determine their effect on the work required under this work item. Many of the definitions relating to performance of this work item are found in Work Item 001.
1.10 All work specified in this item shall be in accomplished under the guidance and supervision of the Manufacturer’s Representative.
QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS: None Additional.
STATEMENT OF WORK
1.11 Perform preliminary operation test and inspection to document any unidentified discrepancies which may require correction. Provide “as-found” report of conditions to Military Sealift Command Representative (MSCREP) documenting all findings. The run time of the diesel will be brief due to the engine oil leak.
1.11.1 Conduct inspection of the engine to identify missing clamps (tubing, pipe and wire), damaged covers, damaged lines (Fuel, lube, water, and air), brackets, securements and hardware.
1.12 With the assistance of Ship’s Force perform joint Lockout and Tag-Out of SSDG systems and controls.
1.13 Drain the engine and support system of fluids.
1.13.1 Contractor is responsible for the collection, transport and disposal of all fluids in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
1.14 Temporarily remove and reinstall all interferences required to accomplish work under this item.
1.14.1 Provide all rigging services to support the disassembly and re-assembly of the diesel engine.
1.15 Provide all labor, materials, parts and tooling to perform Forward Crank Shaft Seal replacement for Nr. 3 SSDG.
1.15.1 Clean all removed parts.
1.15.2 Submit a condition report for replacement of any deteriorated, missing or damaged fasteners
1.16 All parts removed and planned for reinstallation shall be thoroughly inspected to ensure acceptability for continued operation. If a part is deemed unserviceable then inspection criteria and cause for rejection shall be provided in report to MSCREP.
1.17 Preparation of Drawings/Reports:
1.17.1 The Caterpillar Certified Field Service Engineers shall submit a written report to the MSCREP via the contractor stating “as-found” conditions and records of “as-found” and “as-released” clearances.
1.18 Inspection:
1.18.1 Operational Test:
a. Operate engine in accordance with manufactures to ensure proper operation and no leaks present in repaired area.
b. Post Sea Trials Oil and Water samples will be drawn for laboratory analysis, both ship and contractor shall collect samples.
1.19 Manufacturer Representative:
1.19.1 Provide services of CATERPILLAR certified manufacturer’s representative that has proven experience with in place overhauls and major repairs of Caterpillar 3608 Series engines.
a. Representative shall be onsite for support during the disassembly, repairs, cleaning, reassembly and testing portions of work under this item.
1.19.2 Only Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) authorized technical field service representatives, qualified technical field service representatives and OEM parts shall be used to accomplish the requirements of this work item for this critical equipment including oversight and guidance on all aspects of equipment as-found condition inspection, removal, disassembly, reassembly, repairs, modifications, reinstallation and testing as applicable. The technical representative shall attend dock and sea trials.
1.19.3 A qualified technical representative shall have the following minimum qualifications:
a. Ability to procure parts and access to manufacturer's drawings, technical manuals, technical service bulletins, and special tools for the equipment or machinery specified in the work item. Alternatively, the qualified technical field service representative shall have expert knowledge of the equipment or system and shall be able to provide detailed repair requirements, including identification of parts required, sources for those parts, and step-by-step repair procedures to the shipyard and the MSCREP to return the equipment for full operating parameters.
