GENERAL INFORMATION

Overview . The Fort Huachuca sanitary wastewater treatment and collection system collects and delivers sanitary wastewater to the wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) by means of gravity sewer mains and laterals as well as pressurized force mains and approximately twenty-seven (27) lift stations. There are approximately 976,800 linear feet of sewer mains, or 185 linear miles, ranging from four (4) inches to twenty-four (24) inches in diameter, thirty-three (33) oil/water separators, and 950 manholes.

Components . Sanitary wastewater treatment and collection system components include, but are not limited to, electrical, electronic, and digital systems and controls, level controls, control panels, emergency generators, switches, metering devices, reuse basins, recharge basins, lift stations, wet wells, head works, tertiary treatment, biological reactors, pumps, motors, air compressors, filters, piping, indicator lights, mounting hardware, meters, valves, and fittings, and laboratory equipment and components.

Domestic sewage from both Fort Huachuca and Huachuca City is approximately 570,000 gallons per day. The Contractor's maintenance responsibility shall begin at the furthest building at Black Tower and at the boundary fence behind Huachuca City. Wastewater is collected throughout the fort and conveyed to WWTP #2 by means of an underground pipe network. The maintenance boundary begins where the line exits each building. The Contractor’s responsibility in the housing areas shall be limited to main lines and manholes.

The WWTP utilizes primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment. It is designed for ninety-seven (97) to ninety-nine (99) percent removal of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and ninety-seven (97) percent removal of total suspended solids. Currently, the average flow is 0.570 million gallons per day (mgd). The WWTP-permitted design is 2.0 mgd and is intended to satisfy requirements of the current Aquifer Protection Permit (APP), No. P-100840, LTF93227, and Reuse Permit (R105690). A brief description of the major operational units in the WWTP can be found in the APP.
