About this file

This is a technical specification document for cast-in-place concrete work, specifically addressing plain cement concrete curbs, concrete curb ramps, and sidewalks for the Bristol Borough 2026 CDBG Curb Ramp Program in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The specification establishes comprehensive requirements for concrete materials, including ASTM C150 Type I normal cement, ASTM C33 aggregates, and specific admixtures for air entrainment and chemical modification. The work must comply with ACI 301 standards for structural concrete, ACI 304 for measuring and mixing practices, and applicable ACI guidelines for hot and cold weather concreting. Contractors are required to maintain concrete delivery forms as submittals, acquire cement and aggregates from consistent sources throughout the project, and perform all work in accordance with PennDOT Publication 408 specifications. Concrete finishing specifications call for broom finish surfaces, with all placement activities requiring minimum 24-hour advance notification to the Engineer.

The specification mandates quality assurance measures including field testing and inspection directed by the Design Engineer, with the contractor responsible for providing testing, adjusting, and balancing services. Concrete must meet designated Class A or Class AA requirements as specified in Section 704 of PennDOT Publication 408, with air entraining agents required for all work exposed to exterior conditions. Defective concrete that fails to conform to required lines, details, dimensions, tolerances, or specifications must be repaired or replaced at the Engineer's determination, with all patching and finishing work requiring express Engineer approval for each individual area. The specification prohibits use of calcium chloride and set-retarding admixtures except when approved by the Design Engineer, and accelerating admixtures may only be used in cold weather with approval. Non-shrink grout accessories must develop minimum compressive strength of 2,400 psi in 48 hours and 7,000 psi in 28 days, with joint filler materials conforming to ASTM D1751 asphalt-impregnated fiberboard specifications.
