Summary: Bridge Crane Replacement Specifications

This document is a detailed technical specification for the design, fabrication, installation, and testing of a replacement 30-ton overhead bridge crane for the Folsom Warehouse at Folsom Dam, California. The solicitation (No. 140R2026R0017, Amendment No. 0004) includes mandatory work and optional price schedules for runway rail adjustment/repair and new runway rail installation.

The crane specifications require an electrically-operated, top-running, single-trolley design with 40-foot span, approximately 150-foot runway length, and 480-volt 3-phase 60 Hz power supply. Key design requirements include matching existing crane operating speeds and hook dimensions, retaining historical character-defining features where feasible, and compliance with MHI CMAA 70 Class C service, ASME B30.2, and OSHA standards. The contractor must supply motors, hoists, brakes, gearing, bearings, trolley rails, electrical controls, load cells, warning devices, and service platforms with safety railings. Critical submittals include qualified personnel certifications, runway rail survey and recommendations, approval drawings with design calculations certified by a Professional Engineer, PLC code in ladder logic format, installation procedures, operational and load test plans, shop and field weld reports, and final as-built documentation. Fabrication and welding must comply with AWS D1.1 and AISC 360, with 100 percent visual weld inspection and dye penetrant or magnetic particle testing of fillet welds, plus ultrasonic testing of butt joints, performed by an independent third-party AWS Certified Weld Inspector meeting ASNT CP-189 Level II or III qualifications. Load testing must include 110 percent capacity verification, full functional verification, and proof that all brakes set upon power loss. Optional work includes modifying an existing 25-foot access ladder to meet CFR 1910.28 fall protection requirements.
